About DR. KATE
Dr. Kate Wachs is Founder and President of The Relationship Center(TM) and The Relationship Center Online (TM), the country's first and only full-service online and offline introduction and relationship center. Between them, the pioneering centers offer the A-Z of relationship care, including introductions, dating/relationship consultation, classified ad writing and screening, and parties/social events for singles, as well as a wide range of counseling services for singles or couples (psychological testing, psychotherapy, hypnosis, pain management, premarital counseling, couples/marital therapy, sexual dysfunction therapy, family therapy, and divorce mediation).
Dr. Kate is the only psychologist in the US who is both helping to create and fix relationships in this way. She brings this unique perspective as both therapist and matchmaker, as well as her keen observations of what works and doesn't work in her dating population, to her online work. She has been working with singles and couples for over 20 years.
Dr. Kate believes that people have to be happy single, but if they can find that special someone, it adds another whole layer of joy in living. Her Motto: Life's too short not to love someone." Dr. Kate holds a Ph.D. in psychology and is a licensed clinical psychologist. A Member of the American Psychological Association (APA), she was awarded the honor of "Fellow" for outstanding and unusual contribution to the science and profession of psychology, particularly in the area of media psychology. This is a prestigious title granted to only a small fraction of psychologists – those who have shown superior, influential, national, cumulative and ethical impact on their field, and who have been judged by their colleagues to merit this symbol of distinction, integrity and respect.
Dr. Kate is past Chair of the APA Public Information Committee and was also Chair of their Subcommittee on Guidelines for Psychologists Working with the Media, charged with developing and recommending guidelines. She has been very active in APA over the past decade, serving in many different offices, including President of Media Psychology Division and Chair of the Media Psychology Ethics/Guidelines Committee. Dr. Kate also won Media Psychology Division's first Meritorious Award for Outstanding Contribution to Media Psychology.
Dr. Kate has twice won the Women in Management prestigious Women of Achievement Award from the Loop Chapter for her entrepreneurial contributions, dedication, professionalism and leadership in business roles and community activities. She is currently featured in the Who's Who in the World, Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals, Who's Who in the Midwest
and Who's Who of American Women.
Dr. Kate is very active in the media, including television, radio and print. She currently hosts "Answers by Dr. Kate" on America Online, where she answers letters submitted to her by readers. She recently hosted "The Dr. Kate Show," a regular two-hour call-in advice show on WGN-720AM Radio, which was heard in 38 states and parts of Canada. Dr. Kate also recently wrote a regular column "Couple Talk," which appeared every week in Woman's World (1,750,000 copies weekly, national circulation.)
Dr. Kate is a nationally-known relationship expert, and can often be found in several magazine, newspaper, TV and radio features monthly. She has been featured on all the major television networks, as well as Fox, CNN, PBS, The Learning Channel and other cable stations. She has contributed to many television shows, including news shows, magazine shows ("Prime Time Live") and most of the better talk shows ("Oprah", "Donahue", "America's Talking", "Sonya Live", "The Jane Whitney Show", "The Montel Williams Show", "The Bertice Berry Show", "Danny"). The American Psychological Association frequently recommends her to the press as an expert on relationships, dating, marriage, sex and many other topics.
Dr. Kate also contributes frequently to a wide variety of publications, e.g., The New York Times, The LA Times, The Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, San Francisco Chronicle, Time, Newsweek, The Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Connect Times, Ladies' Home Journal, Redbook, Mirabella, Cosmopolitan, McCall's, Detroit Free Press, American Woman, many of the women's magazines and USA Today. Her stories have been picked up by UPI and AP, and published all over the USA. She has hosted and appeared on a wide variety of national, international and regional radio shows as well.
